WHAT: Rotary International's District 5180, which directs Rotary Clubs throughout the Sacramento Valley -- from North of Oroville, to South of Walnut Grove, and West Sacramento to El Dorado Hills - will be joining other Rotary Districts worldwide in a mass, community volunteerism event known as "Rotarians at Work Day." On Saturday, April 26, 2008 thousands of Rotarians will conduct service projects benefiting their respective communities and neighborhoods, including renovating, reading/tutoring, fundraising, building, cleaning, clearing and collecting, among many other activities. To date, almost 1,200 Clubs are organizing 4,000 volunteers to conduct over 120 projects throughout the world - with over 20 service projects taking place in Rotary's District 5180/Sacramento Valley.
WHO: To date, volunteers planning to implement projects in the Sacramento Valley for
"Rotarians at Work Day," represent Rotary Clubs in Oroville, Yuba City, Marysville, Sacramento, Natomas, Roseville, Rocklin/Loomis, Carmichael, Folsom, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, Laguna/Elk Grove, Pocket/Greenhaven, Elk Grove, Granite Bay, and others. HOW: To kick-off "National Volunteer Week" (taking place April 27-May 3, 2008), the "Rotarians at Work" mass volunteerism event will engage Rotarians worldwide, in hands-on service projects benefiting regional nonprofit and community organizations. In District 5180, the following Rotary Clubs will be implementing such projects as (in alphabetical order by location):
* Carmichael: Bench Installation at William B. Pond Recreation Area.
* Elk Grove: Renovation of Sand Volleyball Courts in Elk Grove Regional Park.
* Fair Oaks: Improve Football Field Logo, Reconnect Sprinklers, Replace Groundcover, Clean Up Excess Weeds, Maintenance.
* Folsom: Helping to Build Dog Park with Shade Structures & Benches.
* Folsom: Helping to Build Homes for People in Peru Displaced by the recent Earthquake disaster.
* Gold River: Helping Memory Care Patients Plant Flowers at Eskaton Village.
* Granite Bay: Clean Up & Repair Military Family Homes.
* Laguna/Elk Grove: Clothing Drive to Collect Athletic Shoes & Socks.

* Marysville: General clean up, painting, gardening, weeding, etc., at Covillaud Elementary School.
* Natomas: Playground Renovation at Neighborhood Center.
* Orangevale: "Kids Korner" Preschool Upgrades including Painting, Building a New Storage Shed, Repairing Fences, etc.
* Oroville: Installing Handicap-Accessible Drinking Fountain at Feather River Nature Center.
* Oroville: Lincoln Street Clean Up and Landscape Grooming.
* Pocket/Greenhaven: Collect, Sort, Sell & Repackage books for the "Friends of the Library."
* Rocklin/Loomis Basin: Installing Exercise Stations at Margaret Azevedo Park in Rocklin.
* Rocklin/South Placer: Clean Up & Haul Trash in City of Rocklin.
* Roseville: Clean, Plant, Remove Non-native Plants & Clear Mahaney Park & Adjoining Preserved Greenbelt.
* South Sacramento: Clean Up and Preparation - Emigrant Gap YMCA Camp.
* West Sacramento: "Take a Kid Fishing Day," with Department of Fish & Game, Introducing Urban Children to Outdoor, Fun Activities.
